Stringer's checklist

Tick as you go. Don't botch the job.

0/7 done
  1. Mount the racket

    2 min

Support at 2/10 and 4/8 o'clock. Snug, not crushing — frames warp.

  2. Measure & cut string

    1 min

Pull the length your calculator gave you. Mark the midpoint with a Sharpie.

  3. String the mains

    10 min

Start from the throat, work outward. Tension every pull. Don't skip the awl.

  4. Tie off mains

    2 min

Double half-hitch + a parnell. Trim long; you can always cut later.

  5. Weave the crosses

    15 min

    Top-down. Pre-weave 2 ahead so you're not fighting friction.

  6. Tie off crosses

    2 min

Same knot. Tap the bed — should sound like a snare, not a tom.

  7. Cut, stencil, log it

    3 min

Write date + tension on the throat tape. Future-you will thank present-you.

The short version

Co-poly is stiff — string it 4–6 lbs lower than a multifilament. Lower tension = more power and dwell. Higher = more control and a flatter ball. Restring as many times per year as you play per week. If the bed feels boardy or balls start flying for no reason, cut it out.

Hybrids

Poly in the mains for spin, multi or gut in the crosses for comfort. Try SNAP Spin mains with your favorite multi crosses if you want bite without the full-bed stiffness.
